Fun Day at the Dog Club

by Akke Halma, 17 September 2006

Leo and I are currently doing obedience training. Today our club held a fun day. This is the day where we compete against the others who are in our class. Leo and I are in Green which means we are beginning to do off lead work. Dropping is still a bit of a problem. Mind I can't blame him, I wouldn't be laying down on the grass myself. I can hear you all saying, but he is a dog and should listen to you.

So, today we heeled fairly well, our sits were a bit slow and I very quietly reminded him when he needed to sit. He did drop but only just, it was far from being perfect. Then the Figure of 8 work was done. Later the whole group joined together to do sit-stay. This was the test where the handler walked off and the dog had to stay for 30 seconds. Not Leo, he broke and wandered off towards me. 30 points were lost!

In the end we came 4th. Hooray I hear you all shouting. Er, there were only 4 in the class.

Well, it was a fun day and we all had great fun. We didn't bring home a ribbon but we have learnt a few new things and tricks. So, next time we'll kick butt.

The winners were Pat with Molly who has only three legs. What a champion. "So what, she has one leg less to put out of place", muttered Leo behind his paw. Second came Kim with the fabulous Rosie. "Just coz she didn't break", came another grumbling from the back stalls.

Here are a few snapshots from the eventful day. Please roll over a thumbnail to see the whole picture.
