Chapter VIII - the first half (and a bit) 0f 2008

I was all ready for my Obedience Trial last Friday, Annie said I had been such a good boy with my training and all and we couldn’t go. Some rotten person messed up the computer thingy’s at Annie’s work and she had to work back to sort out the mess...and there is not another trial until mid July now. Annie says not to worry as I will have even more time to get to be brave in the ring.

This morning Annie and I went on the RSPCA Million Paws Walk – we had a lovely time socialising with all sorts of other dogs and we met little Ellie Whippet too! We also met Diesel the Alaskan Malamute, he recognised me so we had a little chat and wanted to play but we couldn’t as we had to stay on lead.

Carlin could not come with us as there were too many people and dogs and poor brother is getting very frightened when he is crowded nowadays.

Carlin has long chats to me about how I am too look after Annie, and be a good boy for her. He says he is going to be going to a place called the Rainbow Bridge some day, maybe not soon but not too far away either, he said it is a wonderful place and it is where Annie’s other dogs Wellington, Crash and Mouse are waiting.

Carlin says I must not be upset or frightened and that one day we will all be together again with our special person – Annie. So although I am very worried I am trying not to actually be scared, I do so much like to have my big brother around.

This week-end is a special one as it is the Queens Birthday, I suppose she has a cake and a party and all that but we didn’t get invited, did you? Still she cannot be all bad: She gave Annie an extra day off!

We do have our van back now and although Annie is still doing things to it and buying things for it I have to say it all looks very nice and comfy indeed! I can hardly wait until we go on our holiday, my little Whippet toes are getting quite itchy with excitement! It is only 8 weeks away now and I have 2 more CCD trials to do before then too.

Last night was what people who live in the NT call ‘Cracker Night’ there are lots and lots of fireworks and people, mostly very drunk adults or ‘hoon’ kids wander around the streets chucking fireworks around and down the drains so that they make an awful noise.

Carlin and I are not great fans of cracker night. Annie stayed home with us and we just sat around with the radio on so as to drown out some of the noise. It is supposed to only go for the one night but there are still crackers going off this evening.

It is now only 4 weeks until Annie and I go away. Annie has decided that although we will miss him terribly, Carlin will stay at home this time, she said he would not be very happy coming away for all that time, in and out of the van and all that.......he will be much more comfy on the verandah with Bob to keep him company.

I may be doing a few trials whilst I am away on my holidays. That will be fun, meeting trial dogs in Melbourne and Ballarat and the Riverland too! Our trials dogs here are a good mob but there are only a pawful of us, just the same faces out each time. Also it will be a bit different doing our work in the daylight with lots of other dogs working in other rings at the same time! In Darwin all the trials are at night and there is only one ring.

I did my last 2 NT trials this week before we go away, sorry to say I did not do to well. I am looking forward to my holiday though and I know Annie is too. I will try very hard to be a good boy for Annie while we are away, just to show her how very much I like to have her all to myself!

I have a brand new coat, a very handsome coat it is too, a lovely bright blue on the outside and blue stripes on the inside, it is big enough to really snuggle up in, like those ladies who wear fur coats do.

Annie tried it on me and I did about 10 wizzies around the garden so that all our neighbours could see how dashing I look in my new coat! It was made by Annie K to help raise funds for Greyhounds.

We are off on our holidays and my next big adventure next Saturday; no doubt I will have lots to tell you about as we travel around.
