Louey and Molly

Louey and Molly

So, you want to know why I ended up with two dogs, and how????

Well here goes! Louey, the blonde Spoodle, came from the R.S.P.C.A. just two years ago. He came as a companion to Katie who was 15 years old and just lost her brother, Tom. Louey settled into his new house and took his responsibilities seriously, looking after Kate’s needs. She was deaf and a little blind so his jobs were many and varied. During the first nine months in his new environment, he attended the Moorabbin Obedience Dog Training Club, reaching the giddy heights of GOLD in that short time.

Now two years later, Katie has gone to Doggie Heaven, leaving a very sad and lost Louey. We searched for another pal for Louey and eventually found Molly at the Keysborough Shelter.

Molly is just 11 months old. She is described as a Schnoodle, but looks like the puppet from Hey Hey it’s Saturday. You know, “Dickie Knee”! However, she has much more personality. And a pretty horrendous history for such a short life.

Molly was found staggering around the street, with a withered right back leg. She was taken to the Keysborough Shelter where she was examined by the Vet, x-rayed, medicated and cared for until she was healthy enough to tolerate surgery. You see the x-ray showed old fractures of the pelvis, right femur, right acetabulum and right femoral head. The only thing the Vet could do was to amputate her hind leg.

It is now four week since her surgery but it has not prevented her from hurling herself into whatever situation she fancies….apart from scratching behind her right ear! She can run like a greyhound, (well almost) but really enjoys running between Louey’s back legs and attacking his front ankles. He puts up with this childish activity with great patience and tolerance.

Another favourite trick is to grab a sock, challenge Louey, and together they lengthen the footwear. Our Molly and Louey are great mates, they have given us and each other so much pleasure. The joy they get out of life, by just being, is a message we cannot ignore.

Now we have registered Molly with Moorabbin Obedience Club, she has had one lesson and is already my Champion!
